Hundreds of people got injured, and three Palestinians lost their lives at the compound of Masjid Al-Aqsa. Because of all this President, Mahmoud Abbas freezes contact with Israel. Palestinian President has announced that due to mass protests by people on new Security measures of Israel, the compound of Masjid Al-Aqsa turned deadly. In his short speech, he mentioned that until Israel do not remove his installed metal detectors contact with Israel will be suspended from his side.
Palestinian President said that:
“I declare the suspension of all contacts with the Israeli side on all levels until it cancels its measures at Al-Aqsa Mosque and preserves the status quo.”
Occupied West Bank and clashes of Jerusalem has made protesters to reach this position and to disperse them Israeli police used tear gas, steel bullets engraved of rubber coating and did firing of ammunition. Because of all these hundreds of people get wounded. In an attack of knife three Israeli’s lost their life in Neve Tesfu of occupied West Bank.
East Jerusalem’s Al Jazeera’s Harry Faweet said that:
“It’s a major move by Mahmoud Abbas.”He added further that:
“It means ending security cooperation, that is something a vast majority of Palestinians have been calling for.”
He mentioned that:
“It’s a way of trying to increase the pressure on Israel to remove the metal detectors that have sparked the protests.”
Muslim leaders have made the allegation that these metal detectors are an attempt by Israel for expansion of their sites. Israelis have denied all these allegations.
Al-Aqsa compound is made of stone and marble and is revered by both Jews and Muslims. In Islam third holiest site is Masjid Al-Aqsa and for Jews, it is also one of the holiest sites. Metal detectors have been added by Israeli’s because of deadly Palestinian attack by shooters last week. According to Israel, all these detectors are for security purposes, but Palestinians think that it depicts only infringement and punishment. For de-escalation of tensions and violence in Jerusalem, United Nation seems in action. Un Spokesperson in an interview told that:
“Ultimately, what is important is for all of the people at the holy sites, including all the worshippers at the holy places, to feel that their religious liberties are being respected.”
He added that this issue was extremely complex and “we do understand legitimate security concerns, but on the other hand, it is important that the status quo at the site by retained.” It is worth mentioning here that on Friday in Old city on hot pavement Muslims knelt in prayers as an escalating protest. After calm prayers, a series of tire burning and protest started by Palestinians. To overcome this situation Israeli’s shot fire and used rubber bullets to disperse the crowd and as a result three Palestinian’s died name, Muhammad Mahmoud Khalaf, Muhammad Abu Ghanam and Muhammad Sharaf. Due to these clashes, five Israeli officers got wounded lightly.
