Infrastructure plays a vital role in the development of any country which ultimately leads to greater business opportunities which result in higher economic growth. Countries are larger, and it is the responsibility of the Govt. that how they connect its cities with each other for easy trade and free movability. Some countries are dry, and some are having water on all corners, some are having all characteristics in their country. So it depends on how they have planned to move like through boats, planes or road? These three are the main ways to travel and the most common among these routes. So every country small or big has roads which link it to other cities and countries with its neighborhood. Today we have collected a list of top 10 longest national highways in the world. 10. Interstate 80 – US
This Highway was designed in 1956 for the trade expansion purpose, and it connects San Francisco, California, Teaneck and New Jersey. The complete route was opened to the general public in 1986, and it connects many big cities of United States like California, Oakland, Utah, Ohio, Nebraska, and Omana. It is considered as the 2nd largest highway in America and its covers an area of 4666km.
9. Interstate 90– US
Interstate 90 commonly known as I 90 is the biggest highway in the United States and is 9th in top 10 longest national highways in the world. It covers and an area of 4856km across the Seattle to Boston. It has many famous cities in its routes and has many toll plazas in its ways like Chicago, illusion and New York. It also passes nearby from Montana, Washington, Boston, and Pennsylvania. This highway has just shifted from the downtowns and Ohio, Cleveland and downtown of Chicago are eliminated from this route.
8. US Route 6
This is the largest veteran route in America and is known for the civil army which is in charge in control of this public highway. This route was planned in 1926 and is in diagonal shape which goes from Bishop, Massachusetts, Provincetown to California. This route was later extended, and many other routes were added into it like US 70, US 50, US 38 and US 32. This makes it spread many other routes and calls it combined route 6 which covers an area of 5158 km.
7. US Route 30
This route was originated from the idea of route 90 and is set parallel to the interstate 90. But the major disadvantage is, it is not a direct route and is broken from its middle, and there many stretched small roads meets with it. This route was first planned to the national park but later it was extended to the coastline and it intersects Route 30 with Route 20. It covers different areas of Indiana, Pennsylvania, Nebraska and New York and covers a distance of 5,415 km.
6. China National Highway 10
From birth, till now China national highway number 10 is the longest highway in China. The length of this highway is 5700km and it starts from Tongjiang in Heilongjiang province and ends at Sanya in Hainan province. The common name of this highway is Tongsan expressway, and it passes from different provinces like Shanghai, Liaoning, Guangdong, Jilin, and Fujian. This is the main route, and it also connects various other smaller highways.
5. Golden Quadrilateral Network
Golden Quadrilateral Network is situated in India and it connects Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi with each other. This is the fifth larger highway in top 10 longest national highways in the world which cover a total length of 5846 km. This project of this highway was started in 2001 and finalized in 2012 with an average budget of 600 billion Indian rupees.
4. Trans-Canada Highway
Trans-Canada highway runs from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and it covers at least ten provinces from east to west. The construction of this highway was started in 1950, and few of its parts were finalized in 1962 and opened for general public. It was finished in 1971 with covering an average length of 8,000km. The Govt. of Canada decided to made changings in the route and installed electric charging ports for the people who use an electric vehicle.
3. Trans- Siberian highway
The third longest highway in top 10 longest national highways in the world is Trans- Siberian highway with an average length covering of 11000km. It starts from St.Petersburg and ends at Vladivostok and includes majority proportionate of Russia. This is the largest Asian highway and also passes from Kazakhstan, and its distance in Kazakhstan is just 190km. It also meets with the route of Europe E30, and it passes very close from the Highway 1, Australia. If both highways meet each other than it will be the longest route in the world.
2. Highway 1 – Australia
Highway 1, Australia is the second longest highway in top 10 longest national highways in the world which cover the length of 14500 km. This route was finalized in 1955 and is the largest route in Australia and second largest in the world. It is said that more than 24 million vehicles use this route every day. This is the main route which moves across the country and all other smaller routes just connect themselves with it.
1. Pan America Highway
According to Gunnies Book of Records Pan American Highway is the longest highway in the world and it also stands at no.1 in top ten longest national highways in the world. This highway is famous because it passes from the various climates and the weather conditions suddenly change when you move from one area to other on this route. On this route, you will witness mountains, jungles, plain areas, greenery, and desserts. This route covers all the mainland countries of US, but it remained unable to connect South America because of 100km of Darien gap. This route was planned in 1925 and finished in 1950 and Mexico becomes the first country to complete its part in this highway. This road is not easy and is also one of the dangerous roads in the world as few of the places are very difficult to drive and are very hazardous.
